Pay close attention, everyone: J.K. Rowling is doing it right. The insanely popular Harry Potter series is being released in eBook format for the first time. But rather than selling her books through closed marketplaces —such as Amazon, B&N, and Apple’s iBooks— Rowling will be offering DRM-free, cross-platform versions through her Pottermore site. Better yet, purchasers will be able to choose from a handful of eBook formats before downloading.
What does this mean for you? Well, a single purchase would allow you to re-read Order of the Phoenix on any platform you choose — be it Kindle, Nook, iPad, Sony, Kobo, Aldiko, or 9¾.
If that’s not magic, I don’t know what is.
